Abstract

This study examines the effects of inflation perception and rupiah exchange rate perception on the shopping behavior of people in Palangka Raya City. A quantitative survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. Data from 160 valid respondents were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. The results show that inflation perception has a positive and significant effect on shopping behavior and a negative and significant effect on purchasing power. Rupiah exchange rate perception has a positive and significant effect on shopping behavior but does not significantly affect purchasing power. Purchasing power also has no significant effect on shopping behavior. Furthermore, purchasing power does not mediate the relationship between inflation perception and shopping behavior or between rupiah exchange rate perception and shopping behavior. The positive relationships between macroeconomic perceptions and shopping behavior are interpreted as stronger adjustments in shopping decisions, rather than necessarily indicating increased spending.
